Southeast CAC September 11, 2014 Minutes

Meeting of the Southeast CAC was held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Barwell Community Center at 7:00 p.m.

Newly elected CAC Chair Tim Sit presided over meeting. Also present were Viola Bullock and Stacey Lundy filling in for Jonathan Edwards.

Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources report was given by Matt Johnson who shared the following events at Barwell Road Community Center: Classes for children, ages 4-14 will be held on Tuesdays; target is homeschooled children $5 per class Snag Golf Class will start in February 2015 Pumpkin Fest on October 17th from 6:30-8:30 pm Volleyball class on Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 pm

Adopt-A-Park & Volunteer Programs was presented by Cindy Trumbower, Resource Development Manager, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources. Ms. Trumbower shared that Adopt-A-Park and other programs with PRCR need lots of Volunteers and asked that people contact her to find out more about these opportunities. She stated that volunteers are needed for the “Festival in Motion” that will take place at the Walnut Creek Wetlands Center on Saturday, September 27th from 10:00am -2:00 pm.

Police report was given by Officer R.A. Lee. Officer Lee stated that burglaries and larcenies are still on the rise. He continued to caution residents to lock vehicles and remove items that are visible to passersby. Most vehicle larcenies reported were from unlocked vehicles. He also stated that three vacant residences had been broken into. A speeding project was set up on Mackinac Island Lane. Over 100 vehicles were pulled.

Housing & Neighborhood Preservation report was given by Chris Boyd. Residents were reminded to contact Department for violation yard maintenance, especially where grass is more than 8 inches high. Only one unlicensed vehicle is allowed in yard. Violators will first get a warning; second offense, $100 fine; third and more offenses, up to $500. If city cuts grass, owner will be billed $175.

RCAC Neighborhood Recognition Award. LaTonia Williams and Grocers on Wheels were nominees for the award that went to LaTonia Williams of John’s Pointe subdivision.

Clean Energy for Raleigh was presented by Nick Brown, Sierra Club. Clean Energy for Raleigh (CE4R) is a local campaign brought to you by the Clean Energy for Us program in partnership with the NC Sierra Club Capital Group. The organization makes it easy and affordable for homeowners, businesses, and tax-exempt entities in Raleigh, NC to go solar and invest in energy efficiency. Discounts are given to qualified homeowners who participate in program. For more information visit www.cleanenergyfor.us. Community Specialist Stacey Lundy encouraged attendees to register and attend the Raleigh Neighborhood Exchange Conference that will be held on September 20, 2014 at the McKimmon Center. She stated that slots are being filled fast with just a few left. The cost for continental breakfast, lunch and sessions is just $10.00.

Tamisha Thomas, representing Healthy Communities Walk was not present.

Jennifer Mangum, shared the Graphic Design that she made for promotional items for the SE CAC. There was a lengthy discussion and input/feedback given to add to finished product which may be used on T-shirts, binders or other items that are determined by members. Motion was made/seconded to have 10 more Barwell Rd. Meeting signs ordered. Vote was held and it was unanimous to approve the motion. Neighborhood Reports Worthdale Neighborhood Association will have its 8th Annual Community Fun Day on September 27th from 11:00am – 2:00pm at Worthdale Community Center. Eagle Chase – Working on Community Watch Program. Jerry Mangum will check on the possibility of getting a grant for signs.

Chastail Trail is having a Block Party.
