Raleigh officials this week released some travel information for those attending "The Works," July 4 event in downtown Raleigh.

The celebration begins at noon Friday and continues until 11 p.m. The Works includes 20 bands playing three stages, fun-for-all events, art for sale, food vendors, eating contests and fireworks.

Parking in the downtown decks is $5 for the entire day. Payment will be taken upon entry. City officials advise celebrants that want to enjoy the pyrotechnics to arrive Downtown no later than 8 p.m. Because parking garages closest to Fayetteville Street usually are filled to capacity by late afternoon, late arrivers are advised to check out the parking deck north of the center city (State facilities at Jones and Cabarrus streets) or Moore Square Parking Deck just east of the Fayetteville Street festivities.

Police have established a taxi queue for easy and safe access. All day July 4, cabs will be queued in the east lane of Salisbury between Hargett and Martin streets.

The R-LINE, Raleigh’s free Downtown circulator bus, will be operating on a modified route on Independence Day from noon to midnight. Those attending the July 4th celebration can park and catch the R-LINE at one of its designated stops.
